About Certification:

Becoming a Certified Pretrial Services Professional (CPSP) is an important first step in becoming recognized by your peers, supervisors, and others in the criminal justice field as possessing the knowledge and skills needed to be a highly qualified and effective practitioner in Pretrial Services.

The minimum requirements to be considered for application are as follows:

  • Level One applicants must hold a full-time position of at least 35 hours per week, or a 3/5ths part-time position in Pretrial Services or Diversion;
  • Hold an Associates degree or 60 college credits, and have at least one year’s full-time criminal justice experience, or two years part-time experience in criminal justice, or
  • Possess a high school diploma (or GED) and 4 years full-time experience.

The examination is intended to demonstrate competency in comprehensive areas related to the Pretrial Services profession.

Successful candidates are required to complete the test with an overall grade of 85% or better. Upon successful completion of the exam, candidates will receive a certificate suitable for framing and may also begin using the letters CPSP after their name.
